Our Story

For thousands of years, the Olkola People have been the custodians for over one million hectares of land between the now – Laura township to the east and Kowanyama and Pormpuraaw to the west.

The Corporation is committed to achieving this aim of the Olkola People through:

  • Providing opportunities for all Olkola People to return to the country and connect with the country through events such as annual on country camps.
  • Employing Olkola People to manage the growing estate of Olkola Country that the Corporation is now responsible for.

What We Do

Country

The Olkola People’s traditional estate is vast. For thousands of years the Olkola People have been custodians for over one million hectares of land between the now – Laura township to the east and Kowanyama and Pormpuraaw to the west.

People

The Olkola Nation originates from central Cape York Peninsula, with a Traditional Estate that encompasses over one million hectares of land between Laura township to the east and Kowanyama and Pormpuraaw to the west

Corporation

Established in 1995 to represent the Traditional Owners of Glen Garland and become the legal entity to hold and manage the Glen Garland Pastoral Lease on behalf of the Traditional Owners of Glen Garland, the Olkola People

Tourism

It's an experience of a living country and culture, and of an ancient, beautiful home. Joining our tour is also an opportunity for you to help the Olkola shape a future for Cape York that respects the traditions of our ancestors and supports generations to come
